PR FACES GROWING ETHNICITY PAY GAP
The UK PR industry's ethnicity pay gap has reached 25.6%, reflecting a lack of diversity in senior roles, according to new report.
The UK PR industry’s ethnicity pay gap now stands at 25.6%, reflecting a lack of diversity in senior industry roles.
White professionals earn an average salary of £57,153, while non-White professionals earn £42,515 on average, according to a report by the Public Relations and Communications Association (PRCA), published on Monday.
The pay disparity is linked to the underrepresentation of non-White professionals in senior positions, who make up just 14% of in-house senior roles. For non-White agency professionals, this falls to 9%.
The PRCA's report also highlighted the prevalence of racial prejudice within the industry. Around 24% of non-White professionals reported experiencing racial discrimination or bias in the workplace. PRCA chair Ray Eglington said the report's findings were a “stark reminder” of the urgent need for robust inclusion strategies.
Meanwhile, the PR industry has continued to diversify, with the number of non-White professionals rising by 18% since 2021.
