INITIATIVE FOR BUSINESSES TO STAND AGAINST RACISM
The new platform ‘Open to Everyone. Closed to Racism’ gives businesses an accessible route to educate its employees about racism. The clear branding also acts as a sign of inclusivity for its internal and external conduct.
Aimed at businesses worried about doing the right thing in terms of diversity and inclusion and unsure where to start, the new platform helps to take a first clear and public stand against racism. It provides signs for premises, digital assets for company websites and social media channels. A wealth of information and materials providing practical advice for employees is also available on the platform.
Jessica Gregson conceived the idea in the wake of the Black Lives Matter protests last summer, with aim to help business owners stand against racism in a visual and thought-provoking way.
“We offer a way for people who haven’t necessarily, directly suffered from racism, but want to take a stand, to show solidarity and help to create change. We will give businesses the tools and the confidence to make the first steps that lead to lasting change,” says Gregson.
Open to Everyone. Closed to Racism, was funded by Suffolk-based brewery, Adnams, who have adopted the branding in its pubs, hotels, offices and retail outlets.
Andy Wood, CEO of Adnams, says, “Supporting Open to Everyone. Closed to Racism will enable and empower people and businesses to create change for the better. We all can and should make a positive difference.”
Membership costs go towards the ‘Create Not Hate’ charity, which helps under-represented young people secure jobs in the creative industries.
The platform is a collaborative effort from a number of experts across the creative industries. Bristol agency, Halo, designed the branding, while the digital assets were created by LA-based agency, Tommy. Publishers, Create & Co, developed the literature, and the supporting research and learning materials were provided by culture change business, Utopia.
