THE CHANGING WORLD OF INTERNAL COMMS

Corporate communications has, of course, been radically altered by the growth in new technologies, internal communications is no different. The use of apps and smartphones has opened up new frontiers for internal communicators and technologies like Yammer have introduced new ways for comms teams to engage employees.

At the Institute of Internal Communicationsannual conference on 22-24 May in Bristol, experts in the industry will share their thoughts on the fast-paced world of internal communications.

IoIC president Suzanne Peck says, “There’s far more grey than ever before. IC professionals are being challenged as our role changes from ‘inform and tell’ communications to a more transformational approach. Rather than building channels, we’re evolving them to connect and engage people and drive performance.”

The three-day conference’s key note will be delivered by actress and campaigner Brooke Kinsella MBE on her efforts to engage young people. She will be joined by Euan Semple (pictured), a social media expert, and internal communicators from the Financial Times, AstraZeneca, the NHS and more. The conference will also address employee engagement in unique environments such as the London Olympics, the psychology of gamification and ethics in the workplace.

Linda Moir, who was charged with engaging the London 2012 Games Makers, will speak on her experiences at managing a 15,000-strong, mostly volunteer workforce.

The conference runs from Wednesday evening through Friday. This is the IoIC’s eighth annual conference.
