SOCIAL MEDIA TOOLS COMING TO IPLAYER
BBC iPlayer is to launch as a social media platform, according to Peter Horrocks, Head of Global News, BBC. Speaking at Communicate’s Social Media in a Corporate Context, Horrocks spoke of using the iPlayer as a tool for friends and family to interact with each other over TV programmes.
In his first week as the BBC’s new Head of Global News, Horrocks, who replaced Richard Sambrook, famously said of social media ‘This isn’t just a kind of fad from someone who’s interested in technology. It’s not discretionary’. He went on to say ‘If you don’t like it, if you think that level of change or that different way of working isn’t right for me, then go and do something else, because it’s going to happen. You’re not going to be able to stop it’
