PAUL MYLREA ELECTED CIPR PRESIDENT FOR 2011
Paul Mylrea, director of communications for the Department for International Development, has been elected 2011 president of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations.
Meanwhile, Sally Sykes, communications director for the Health & Safety Executive has been re-elected to her position as treasurer for 2010.
Both appointees had to fight for their election wins. With 304 votes, Paul managed to fend off the challenge of Jenifer Stirton, director of communications for NHS Lothian who received 200. Sally’s 268 votes were enough to see off Lisa Shaddick, managing director of DA Public Relations, who received 206.
Next year, Paul – who has been a board member for the last two years and is a currently chair of the Education and Professional Standards committee – will serve as President Elect to Jay O’Connor, CIPR president for 2010.
"I am extremely grateful for the support from members and proud to be elected,” said Paul. “It's time to get to work.”
He added: “I promised to listen to members and that is what will drive me in the coming months as I work with Jay and Sally to build a strong future for the CIPR.”
Sally is a fellow of the institute and board member with 25 years in active membership. She is a former chair of CIPR North West and is passionate about professional development.
