SIR VINCE CABLE’S FORMER CHIEF OF STAFF JOINS HIGGINSON STRATEGY

The former chief of staff in the Liberal Democrat leaders’ office has joined purpose-driven communications agency Higginson Strategy.

Alex Davies joins Higginson as associate director after working for the firm on a freelance basis for two political clients.

Davies was at the heart of Vince Cable’s team throughout his leadership of the Liberal Democrats. He brings with him 15 years of experience in the House of Commons and House of Lords.

Responsible for giving political and media advice, liaising with key figures across both Houses of Parliament he boosts Higginson’s growing public affairs offering.

Prior to working for the former cabinet minister, Davies supported a range of campaigners on democratic reform, human rights and civil liberties through the political grant maker Joseph Rowntree Reform Trust Limited. He had been working most recently for the Royal College of Surgeons.

He advised campaigners on delivery and provided strategic and political advice to the company’s board.

Partner John Higginson says, “Alex’s has a first-class strategic brain and unparalleled policy knowledge. He is also a first-rate writer which is a rare talent among communications professionals. He will be a huge asset to our growing list of clients.”

Founded in 2017 by former lobby journalists John and Clodagh Higginson, Higginson Strategy uses communications and behavioural insight to accelerate positive change. Higginson Strategy's revenues have doubled in the past year and the agency expects to exceed £1m in revenue in 2020.

Davies says, "I am pleased to join the Higginson team at a time when the business is expanding at such a meteoric rate. Having worked closely with the organisation already, I have seen at first hand the impressive way in which the team combines the ethos of an NGO with the efficiency of an agency. The company has a laser-like focus on delivery for its clients, each of whom, in different ways, has a social purpose."
