CHAPTER HIRES SUE MURPHY AS NEW DESIGN PARTNER

Chapter, the San Francisco-based creative studio, has hired the multi-award-winning Sue Murphy to the new role of design partner.

Murphy joins from Wieden + Kennedy in Portland where she was design director working on clients including Chobani, P&G, Coca-Cola and Samsung.

As design partner at Chapter, she will take the lead on building a more progressive and diverse design team as well as joining Chapter’s leadership team with the founding partners, Gareth Kay and Neil Robinson. She will work across Chapter’s client portfolio and becomes an equity partner in the business.

At W+K, Murphy played an active role in new business and was key to W+K winning the Airbnb pitch. Previously, she worked at Wolff Olins on clients such as Google, Grubhub and Facebook, and at Ogilvy NY on the IBM account. Throughout her career she’s been awarded D&AD and One Show Pencils as well as Cannes Lions. Originally from Ireland, Murphy began coding websites at the tender age of 11.

The appointment is a significant hire for the growing creative studio which has a full-time staff of 10 and a further 10 regular freelancers.

Neil Robinson, founding partner of Chapter, says, “I've admired Sue's work for years and it's exciting to be joining forces with someone who has such an expansive perspective on design and its ability to shape ideas and experiences. Sue also brings a refreshing ambition, irreverence and vision that will help shape how Chapter grows in the years to come.”

Murphy adds, “I'm excited to build and shape a brilliant, curious, optimistic and diverse design studio that easily spans disciplines – and solves problems with creativity. I'm looking forward to partnering with the team to make Chapter a thriving creative home that adds new energy and contributions to the creative culture in San Francisco and well beyond the bay.”

“Chapter has garnered an approach of working directly with inspiring change makers inside of the world’s biggest brands—and for turning up and being the provocative, honest and thoughtful voice in the room. The opportunity to truly partner with clients, to be on the other side of the bat phone, to help them solve their problems and have that level of impact on a brand daily is thrilling.”
