PRCA INTERN CAMPAIGN CELEBRATES 39 ADDITIONS

The Public Relations and Communications Association (PRCA) has refreshed its Intern Campaign and signed up 39 more organisations. All are committed to paying interns the National Minimum Wage or more.

The new additions include leading PR consultancies Cicero Group, Feref, and M&C Saatchi. The list of additions brings the total number of organisations that are committed to paying interns to 189.

Francis Ingham MPRCA, PRCA director general, says, “These additions to the PRCA Intern Campaign are an important step in ensuring that the industry is recruiting the brightest young people from a diverse talent pool. It is encouraging to see the PR and communications industry taking a stand against the immoral practice of not paying interns."

Graham Hawkey-Smith MPRCA, CEO, Feref, says, “We are proud to be part of the PRCA’s Intern campaign as we highly value the contribution interns add to our business, and have always believed that appropriate financial reward is important. We want to help the PRCA encourage all agencies to commit to paying interns. Our industry has a collective responsibility to nurture talented individuals with exciting opportunities, at a fair wage, that help them grow into tomorrow’s leaders.”

The PRCA launched the Intern Campaign in October 2011 with PRWeek. It is aimed at ending the practice of unpaid internships, as part of the association’s commitment to raising standards in all areas of the PR industry.

The PRCA lists all agency and in-house organisations that pay their interns at least the National Minimum Wage, in order to make students and graduates aware of the agencies that provide fair payment for their services. The full list can be found here.
